Note: This year's Retreat options have changed. For the most current info, contact us.
The Great Escape! Enjoy solitude in a serene coastal townhome, immersed in your novel for up to four days—from Thursday or Friday anytime, through Sunday or Monday noon. Dance with your muse; hone your craft; intermingle with editors, agents, and accomplished peers at our concurrent Whole Novel seminar.
The retreat is limited to seven skilled MG and YA novelists. You may sign up for a weekend of near seclusion, or integrate social and professional networking. Either way: prepare to write, write, write!
LOCATION & LODGING
Our retreat unfolds at Pajaro Dunes Resort, a two-mile private beach and gated community, 20 miles south of Santa Cruz, California. Many of the resort’s visitors leave the premises to engage in tourism, and/or they are naturally quiet. Thus, the loudest sound at your retreat will be crashing waves, accompanied by the cry of seagulls. See our web page for more venue information.
At Pajaro Dunes, retreatants stay in a three-level, four-bedroom beachfront unit that we call the Retreat House. It’s located a few steps from our seminar meetings and meals. The Retreat House offers individual space within a cozy writers community.
This unit has single- and double-occupancy bedrooms, each with its own bath. The top (oceanview) level has a fireplace, fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, BBQ, and two decks— plenty of quiet corners, plus areas for socializing, and peer critique groups or readings. Also included in your townhouse: high-speed wireless, free local and long-distance calling, VCR and DVD.
If the Retreat House is full or you’d like more options, lodging “on your own” may be available. Pajaro Dunes’ beachfront condos for one to six people are located one mile down the road, a quick drive or 10 minutes’ walk via a grassy shortcut. See Pajaro Dunes’ website or phone reservationist Karol at 800-564-1771. Per-person rates for condos are higher than those for townhomes, but offer more privacy.
